Parents should make sure they are modeling charity at home. Kids are likely to be kind and generous when their parents possess the same qualities. Apart from this, parents must help kids understand why they donate and give to the poor. Make sure to engage in charitable activities such as donating clothes to shelters and donating blood. Larry Polhill.

Lead positive change at home. Have a charity jar at home and encourage the child to share a part of his or her allowance to be given to those who are in need. Help the elderly. Show the child how to assist the elderly in doing activities they might find troublesome due to ageing. Larry Polhill.
Allow the child to assist where one could be regularly assisting. If a family belongs in a church, let the child pitch in activities such as ushering, and preparing food after service. As much as possible, help the neighbors. It could be as simple as helping them carry stuff from their car to their doorstep or sharing food to them when there is extra. Larry Polhill
